Mom and the Mirror

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 127 Part of the routine check-up for well babies is checking on their developmental milestones.  With this 6 month old baby, I asked the Dad if the baby liked looking at himself in the mirror.  Dad answered, "Oh yes!  I think he got that from his Mom.  Mom likes to spend hours looking at herself in the mirror!" Too much info, Dad! From www.openspacesfengshui.com

Water Birth No More

Petite Pedia Post 125 I attended this newborn delivery recently.  Mom was in labor for 31 hours, the last 6-7 hours of which were very painful. Her original plan was water birth (hence, no anesthesia)  but ended up lying in bed since she was more comfortable in it.  Even if she wanted anesthesia, we couldn't since she was too far along. There were times when she was on the verge of giving up, but her very "supportive" family and friends would tell her , "Ginusto mo yan!"  The very excited and cooperative father-to-be was also stressed whenever he would see his pregnant partner in pain. His solution? He would disappear and eat several servings of food and come to sit beside his partner all recharged.  (He had 3 servings of dinner and breakfast.)  ðŸ˜‚ At the end of the tiring and succesful lamaze delivery, the obstetrician probably saw how exhausted the Mom was. She ordered that Mom be given some water. Nurse handed it over to the new...

Macron in the Making

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 122 Yesterday, I saw this 4 year old boy who was sooooo excited.  I was told that they were visiting to get a  medical certificate for school. Me: You must be really excited to go to school. Boy: It's ok. Mom: Actually, Dra, he was more excited because we were going to your clinic.  I think he likes you.  Kinikilig pa nga when you entered the clinic. From Politico Europe website Awwww!!! ❤️💘💗

My Prince Elsa Series 9

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 120 Mom told me she has succeeded in hiding all girly stuff and he doesn't look for his Princess/Barbie dolls anymore.    Me: Who/what is your favorite cartoon character? P.E.: Thomas the Train! (Uy!)  Me: You don't like Elsa anymore?  P.E.: No!  Me: How about Barbie?  P.E.: Nope! (Wow!)  Me: Are you a boy or a girl? P.E.: Boy! (Yahoo!)  Me: What's your favorite color?  P.E.: Purple! (Ok, pwede naman sa boy ang purple or pink. Let's not stereotype.)  As he left the room after the check up, he flipped his hair and squeeled, "Bye Tita Doc!" And placed his bag on his bent elbow and carried it like a "tita". from www.viralultimate.com

Mix and match

Petite Pedia Plots 104 And this is what happens when you are in such a hurry...   No wonder the other foot felt "air-ier"!

My Prince Elsa Series 5

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 99 Little Boy Princess Elsa had a check-up. Was so impressed when he came in wearing a "Cars" cap, a "Spiderman" shirt and "Batman" shoes. He chose to play with a ball (and not the dolls) and ran around the clinic. When I was bidding him goodbye, he pointed to my floral dress and said, "I love the flowers on your dress, Tita Doc. I really love flowers!" I almost fell off my seat.  Photo from www.dreamstime.com

Counting Conundrum

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 98 Proud Dad told me that his 5-yr old son could read numbers up to 200. As we were measuring the son's height, Dad pointed to the number 110 and asked his son to read it. After a whole lot of prodding, I could sense both Dad and son getting frustrated. To encourage him I said, "one hundred and ....". Finally, I saw the son smile and say, "One hundred and ONE and ZERO!!!"  Photo from www.earnthis.net

Pa-Kodak Please?

Petite Pedia Plots 97 You know you've somehow made an impression (good, I hope) on a patient and his family when the youngest sibling of the patient asks for a photograph with you and the father offers to take the picture rather enthusiastically.  This really made my day.

Sexy Child (!)

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 95 While looking at my prescription, this 6-yr old worriedly asked me, "Doc, di ako sexy?" "Bakit mo naman nasabi yon?", I asked. "Kasi wala kang sinulat dun sa 'sex' eh. Eh, di hindi ako sexy!" Photo from www.mamamia.com.au

School Stamp

Petite Pedia Plots 93 This naughty 6 year old patient of mine hardly gets stamps from school. So I was really happy when I saw him with 2(!) stamps on his hand. So I asked him what he did at school to get the stamps and he answered, "humihingi ako kay teacher ng stamp, ayaw niya ko bigyan. So ako na lang nag stamp sa sarili ko!"

PInch!

Petite Pedia Plots 92 You know you're on the healthy side when your 2 year old patient starts to pinch your arm with so much gusto!

Will Eat Anything!

Guessing Game

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 89 This 5-yr old told me he could read his alphabet now. So I proceeded writing the letters randomly and he would identify each letter. He could identify quite a lot actually. But when he started missing the letters consecutively, he told me, "Letter E yung susunod mong isulat ha, Doc! Huhulaan ko." Photo taken from the website, 1000 Awesome Things

My Prince Elsa Series 4

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 88 Remember my Mr. Princess Elsa? Well, his Mom told me that Elsa was no longer his favorite character. I thought, "Change of heart! Maybe he likes cars and superheroes now." And so I asked him who his new favorite now was and he answered, "Madami na, Tita Doc. And he proceeded to enumerate them like they were his best friends: Jasmine, Belle, Cinderella and Aurora!"  Photo taken from Etsy Studio

Airplane is headed where?!?

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 86 His best friend recently got adopted, this 5 yr old boy told me. And he was excitedly telling me that his friend got to ride an airplane. When I asked where his friend went, he said, "Sumakay siya ng airplane, Tita Doc, at nagpuntang heaven!"   Parang ayoko ata sumakay muna sa airplane kung dun ako dadalin.  Photo taken from Pinterest

My Prince Elsa Series 3

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 85 So, my Prince Elsa was back for a check-up. Mom was so proud and said that he could now correctly hold a pencil and scribble on paper. So, I gave him both. After awhile, he showed me his drawing. He drew Cinderella and her, ehem, "nice blue gown".  Photo taken from Ikat Bag

Needs Charging

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 84 Overheard this conversation between a Mom and her 5 y/o daughter as they left my clinic:  Child: Mommy, taxi tayo pauwi! Mom: Wag na! Shuttle na lang tayo para tipid.  Child: Taxi tayo please? Pagod na ko eh.  Mom: At bakit ka napagod? Child: Di mo kasi ako na-charge nung umalis tayo.  Mom: Aba! At baterya ka na ngayon?!?

Weighing Scale, Anyone?

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 83 A Mom sought phone consult about her child. Asked her what the latest weight was. She didn't know. Wala daw silang weighing scale sa bahay. She asked around her neighborhood for one. Ang binigay sa kanya? Timbangan ng gulay!

My Prince Elsa Series 2

Petite Pedia Plots 81 My 3 y/o male "QueenElsa" came in the room wearing a blue shirt and shorts. Thinking that things might have changed in between check-ups, I asked him if his favorite color was blue. And he quips, "Pink!" complete with eyerolling. When I asked him what he was wearing, he said, "a blue shirt, shorts and a panty!" I corrected him and said "brief".  He insisted it was a panty. Alam na talaga!
