Drama Queen

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 133 Mom brought her 9-year old daughter to my clinic for a shot.  Mom calls her "Drama Queen" for reasons I will know later. Mom said she had already briefed her daughter but still warns me that it will take some time before DQ settles down to get her shot. And true enough, it took about 20-30 minutes of convincing with a lot of tears, bathroom breaks ("I need to pee right now!"- 2x) , bribing ("You'll get the dress that you want", "I'll let you have the Ipad the whole weekend", "You can go to the birthday party" - seems my lollipops didn't have any magic with 9-year olds) and scolding ("I'll leave you here with Tita Doc", "We'll call Kuya Guard and he'll hold you down", "You're gonna get the shot no matter what you do" and "YOU DO IT OR ELSE,"). It was the last statement that did it. It took me less than 10 seconds to give the shot.   When she ...

My Prince Elsa Series 10

Petite Pedia Plots 126 Yesterday, I had a visit from 4 year old Prince Elsa.  Mom has been working extra hard at hiding his Barbie dolls and has been very succesful.  She says that when they go to the mall, he asks for toy cars.  (Yey!) His favorite shows are now oriented for both boys and girls.  (Good job, Mom!)  And in school, he has learned how to sing well.  Conversation goes as follows: Me: Wow! I heard you can sing well.   P.E.: Oh yes!!! Me: So what is your favorite song? P.E.: Fireworks by Katy Perry And he proceeds to give me a good rendition. 👏👏👏 Me: Who are your favorite singers aside from Katy? P.E.: Keshia, Ariana Grande and Britney Spears (!)   He shows me his Ipad and I see that it contains songs only by the 4 singers. And goes on to sing a medley of all their songs in a high voice complete with gyrations.  😂🤣😂🤣😆

Apat vs Four

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 118 During my visit to the orphanage, two girls were brought to the clinic.  I asked Girl #1 how old she was.  Bibo Girl #2 answered for Girl #1 and said "Four".  Little Girl #1 started crying and said, "Hindi ako four. Mali ka! Apat na taon na ko no!"  photo from www.martinezbeavers.org

Careful

Petite Pedia Plots 113 8 yr old girl visits the clinic and brags that she can now distinguish true from fake. "Wow! How did you learn that?", I asked. She replied, "Well, Mom gave me fake Shopkins and that's how I know."  (Mom was with her during the visit.) I really should be more careful with my questions.

I'm the Star!

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 112 My 6-yr old patient doesn't get stars/stamps on his hands because he's quite naughty. He explains it this way: "Why do I need stars on my hands when I'm already the star?"  from www.tenor.com

New Kind of Veggie

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 76 My 3-yr old patient was proudly enumerating the veggies she eats now: carrots, squash, cabbage, sayote, okra, ampalaya, and CHOCOLATE! Magka-food group na pala ngayon ang chocolates at carrots. Hehe! 😂😬😖

Small Hands

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 69 Amazing how fast time flies! Is it just that I have small hands or that they're growing too fast?  Faces blurred to preserve identity

Worst Nightmare

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 68 Placed one of my obese patients on a diet. So, his mom limited  dinner to viand and bread. Mom told me that since putting the child on this diet, he had nightmares all the time. Child would wake up crying and say, "Mommy, i forgot to eat rice!!! " Photo from The Telegraph UK website

The Great Pretenders

You're Pretty.....

Petite Pedia Plots 52 Overheard this conversation among  a mother and her 2 sons: Mom: "So, how do i look?" Older son: "You're pretty, Mom." Naughty youngest son: "Yup, you're pretty..... Pretty chubby."

Don't Ask Questions, Dr!

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 49 Always so used to seeing both parents during this patient's check-up, I asked the mom where the dad was this morning. 5-yr old patient blurts out, "Ay! Nag-away sila kanina, Dra".

Clingy Orphan

Petite Pedia Plots 48 Today was my 3rd visit to a "new" orphanage. I was so happy when a 2 yr old boy seemed so attached to me he didn't want me to put him down. I also learned he was the one with head lice. No wonder my scalp's starting to itch.

Siblings

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 47 A pair of siblings had cough. Part of my routine is to ask my patients to promise not to eat sweets while sick. Kuya, the 5 year old, readily answered, "O-K! I promise!". The chubby 2 year old could only muster "O-hmmmm!" consistently when asked. At least, honest siya.

100 vs 1

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 46 We were having difficulty persuading my 5 y/o patient to have his flu shot. So, his mom told him which he would prefer - receiving 100 injections because he was sick VS getting just 1 injection. His answer? "ZERO!!!!"

Twins with Different Birthdates

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 44 Bakit ganon??? Sabi ng isang patient ko, he is "tik" (six) years old, while the other one said he was "teven" (seven). Eh, kambal kaya sila!!!

Writing Skills

Petite Pedia Plots 39  My 4-yr old patient was so eager to show off his writing skills. So I asked him to write his name on my prescription pad. And he did! Even filled up the blank for age. When his dad asked him, “how about sex”, he vehemently said, “NO!!!!” Parang nakakaintindi na ah.

Dora, the Doctor

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 37 Sporting a new haircut with bangs, the mom of a patient couldn’t help but exclaim, “Wow! Anak, pareho kayo ni Dra na kamukha si Dora”. Couldn’t help but think na hindi ata compliment yon ah.

Feeding Frenzy

Petite Pedia Plots 35 Last wk, I saw 3 new babies in the orphanage – all less than a month old. One was given a lollipop as a pacifier, one was fed champorado and the other one was given Milo.
