Drama Queen

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 133 Mom brought her 9-year old daughter to my clinic for a shot.  Mom calls her "Drama Queen" for reasons I will know later. Mom said she had already briefed her daughter but still warns me that it will take some time before DQ settles down to get her shot. And true enough, it took about 20-30 minutes of convincing with a lot of tears, bathroom breaks ("I need to pee right now!"- 2x) , bribing ("You'll get the dress that you want", "I'll let you have the Ipad the whole weekend", "You can go to the birthday party" - seems my lollipops didn't have any magic with 9-year olds) and scolding ("I'll leave you here with Tita Doc", "We'll call Kuya Guard and he'll hold you down", "You're gonna get the shot no matter what you do" and "YOU DO IT OR ELSE,"). It was the last statement that did it. It took me less than 10 seconds to give the shot.   When she ...

Mom and the Mirror

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 127 Part of the routine check-up for well babies is checking on their developmental milestones.  With this 6 month old baby, I asked the Dad if the baby liked looking at himself in the mirror.  Dad answered, "Oh yes!  I think he got that from his Mom.  Mom likes to spend hours looking at herself in the mirror!" My Prince Elsa Series 10

Petite Pedia Plots 126 Yesterday, I had a visit from 4 year old Prince Elsa.  Mom has been working extra hard at hiding his Barbie dolls and has been very succesful.  She says that when they go to the mall, he asks for toy cars.  (Yey!) His favorite shows are now oriented for both boys and girls.  (Good job, Mom!)  And in school, he has learned how to sing well.  Conversation goes as follows: Me: Wow! I heard you can sing well.   P.E.: Oh yes!!! Me: So what is your favorite song? P.E.: Fireworks by Katy Perry And he proceeds to give me a good rendition. 👏👏👏 Me: Who are your favorite singers aside from Katy? P.E.: Keshia, Ariana Grande and Britney Spears (!)   He shows me his Ipad and I see that it contains songs only by the 4 singers. And goes on to sing a medley of all their songs in a high voice complete with gyrations.  😂🤣😂🤣😆

Baby Looks Like Me!

Image
from www.seniorark.com Petite Pedia Plots 123 New parents are always curious who their baby will take after in the looks department.   I had this couple who were arguing about it.  Mom is pretty adamant that her little boy looks like her. At the end of the consult, I advised them that the baby might start losing hair within the next month.  Mom, then looks at the bald Dad, and says, "Well, when that happens, I'm pretty sure he's gonna look like you!"

Macron in the Making

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 122 Yesterday, I saw this 4 year old boy who was sooooo excited.  I was told that they were visiting to get a  medical certificate for school. Me: You must be really excited to go to school. Boy: It's ok. Mom: Actually, Dra, he was more excited because we were going to your clinic.  I think he likes you.  Kinikilig pa nga when you entered the clinic. From Politico Europe website Awwww!!! ❤️💘💗

My Prince Elsa Series 9

Petite Pedia Plots 120 Mom told me she has succeeded in hiding all girly stuff and he doesn't look for his Princess/Barbie dolls anymore.    Me: Who/what is your favorite cartoon character? P.E.: Thomas the Train! (Uy!)  Me: You don't like Elsa anymore?  P.E.: No!  Me: How about Barbie?  P.E.: Nope! (Wow!)  Me: Are you a boy or a girl? P.E.: Boy! (Yahoo!)  Me: What's your favorite color?  P.E.: Purple! (Ok, pwede naman sa boy ang purple or pink. Let's not stereotype.)  As he left the room after the check up, he flipped his hair and squeeled, "Bye Tita Doc!" And placed his bag on his bent elbow and carried it like a "tita". from www.viralultimate.com

Carabao Thief?

Image
Daughter Duties 45 We were talking about extrajudicial killings during lunch.  Dad: Dati na yan. Kapanahunan ko pa. Noon nga, may isang "notorious na magnanakaw ng mga kalabaw" sa amin eh. Pinatay. Sinabi lang ng pulis na nakatakas at nanlaban kaya namatay.  My mind stopped when I heard "notorious na magnanakaw ng mga kalabaw". Madami pa ang kalabaw noon at ninanakaw pa!  from www.rte-international.com

Identify the Colors

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 119 This 2 y/o girl wanted me to test her colors. So, i point to the red, blue, yellow and pink and she gets all of them right. Then Lola asks her what color my blouse is. Since she was stumped, she instead asked me, "Ikaw anong kulay ang suot mo, tita doc?" Smart girl.  from www.wallpaperwave.com

Dad Says Thanks

Image
Daughter Duties 41 I never realized that my Dad is so competitive. Cases in point:  (1) Whenever a patient was wheeled out of the Acute Stroke Unit and transfered to a regular room, he would say, "Bakit nauna yon?" And the nurses would tell him that the patient was admitted days before him.     (2) There is a test that they administer for cognitive functioning. He got 28/30 which is excellent for someone his age. He couldn't help but quip, "Dapat na perfect ko yun eh."  Daddy sends his love to everyone who prayed for his recovery and visited him. After just 3 days, we are home! God has been extremely good to my Dad and family and we pray for his good health and everyone else's.  from www.shaytards.tumblr.com

Mali ka! Apat na taon na ko no!"  photo from www.martinezbeavers.org

Rich Kid

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 115 After a particularly happy consult (no vaccines, no crying), this 5 year old whipped out her wallet and gave me this P20 bill as "tip". She wouldn't take it back and Mom said she gives money to people she's pleased with. The girl was rolling in dough and also gave my sec a P100 bill. Yayamanin!

Tit for Tat

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 114 During a check-up, I told the Mom that her 7 y/o daughter had a dirty ear and needs to have regular cleaning. Mom told the girl, "Di ka kasi naligo today, ayan, dirty ears ka." Girl replied,"Mommy ikaw din siguro dirty ears kasi di ka din naligo!" from www.reactiongifs.com

Careful

Petite Pedia Plots 113 8 yr old girl visits the clinic and brags that she can now distinguish true from fake. "Wow! How did you learn that?", I asked. She replied, "Well, Mom gave me fake Shopkins and that's how I know."  (Mom was with her during the visit.) I really should be more careful with my questions.

My Prince Elsa Series 8

Image
Petite Pedia Plots 111 His teacher advised Mom to hide all the girly toys in the house and replace them with a lot of "Cars" and "Superheroes" stuff. I see him and Mom about a week after. He comes in with a "Cars" kiddie backpack. Mom tells me she is very proud because he hasn't asked for his favorite doll (aka Barbie) and dollhouse since she hid it.   "Wow! You have a nice bag! What are those?, I  asked.  Little boy replies, "They're cars."  "And what's the name of the one in the middle, the main character?" He said,"That's Annabelle! And his friend is Krista." from www.popkey.com
