Doctor na Makulit

Petite Pedia Plots #145 I saw this 2 year old playful girl in the clinic.  Mom wanted me to check the child’s memory skills. So, we started asking her about shapes and colors. Half of the time, she’d get the correct answer but I could tell the little girl was getting impatient and frustrated. On the last try, I asked her, “What shape is the block you’re holding right now?” The little girl looked at what she was holding and then she just let the block go and fall. I guess if she wasn’t holding on to anything, I’d stop asking the darn questions.

Sneaky Mom

Daughter Duties #52 Even though we have an automatic BP monitor,  my hypertensive parents always feel more secure when I’m the one putting on the cuff for some weird reason. Right before I got their BP today, I spied a big plastic container of chicharon. Dad: “Gusto ko nga buksan pero sabi ni Mommy wag daw muna.  Bawal daw samin.” Me: “Eh Dad,  madami ng bawas.” (The container looked full from the front but if you turn it around, 3/4 na lang ang remaining.) Dad (while looking at Mom): “Sabi mo sarado pa?!?!?!?” Mom grins from ear to ear.

Buffet Bonanza 2

Daughter Duties #51 My Mom and Dad are both frugal and their prices are stuck in the early 2000s.  It also happens that both my sister and I never tell them the price because they don’t enjoy it as much when they think it’s too expensive. Overheard my Mom on the phone talking to my sister about the latest hotel buffet. Mom: “Kung hindi lang sana unhealthy na kumain sa buffet, pwede sana halos araw-araw.  Imagine PhP700 lang each tapos may 20% senior discount pa kami! Lalong mura. Imagine, mas mahal pa yung latest Japanese buffet eh kami pa yung nagluto!”

Best clinic ever

Petite Pedia Plots #144 On an extremely tiring and difficult Saturday clinic, I was finally down to my last patient.  This 7 year old boy has been my patient ever since. A couple of months ago, he was bitten by a dog and was brought to thr ER for anti-rabies.  His Mom aaid he cried so loudly in the ER, not because of the pain, but beause he wanted me to be the one to give him the injection.  Every time they’d visit the ER to complete the shots, he kept saying, “Where’s my Tita Doc? I want my Tita Doc!” accompanied by a lot of wailing. This time, Mom brought him to the clinic for his flu shot.  Normally, kids who undergo rabies series develop a phobia of needles, so I was expecting a difficult time before giving the vaccine. When he came in, he hurriedly gave me a tight embrace and seemed so glad to see me.. No crying and no fuss during the flu shot.  As he was leaving the room, he shouted,”Tita Doc, you’re the best ...... EVER!!!” Best Saturday clinic ever too.
